Wangari Mathenge, an African painter who underlines, through powerful strokes loaded with character and such a strong personality, those feelings of belonging, of meeting with the other one, pride of the roots, of the color of our skin, our distant origins that are very close at the same time that nobody, never, leaves them at all.
Sus obras que nos recuerdan no perder de vista el cuestionarse en dónde estoy, de dónde vengo y a dónde voy, el valorar lo propio, lo tuyo, lo mío, lo nuestro como el núcleo de una cultura global que cada vez se fusiona más y más con la pluralidad y el encuentro de varios mundos.
Her work reminds us to pay attention and listen to our inner voice asking where I am, where I come from, and where I am going now, embracing what is mine, yours, ours as the core of a global culture that increasingly merges, more and more, with diversity and the encounter of different worlds.
Reconocer quién soy. Reconocerse en el otro también, en lo público, en la partícula más sencilla de esa realidad que tantas veces pasa desapercibida y de ese universo cultural que desde que aparecemos le va dando forma a nuestro mundo y, de igual modo, va configurando nuestros amores y desamores, nuestros encuentros y desencuentros, nuestras idas y vueltas.
Finding who I am. Finding who the others are and who we are in the other one, as a magical mirror of our days. Finding lots of answers in the public space, in the most little atom of that reality that so often goes unnoticed and of that cultural universe that from the moment we appear is shaping our world and, in the same way, it is shaping our loves and heartbreak, our encounters and misunderstandings, our comings and goings.
